My Artist Statement
Although I have been doing photography since high school I have loved taking photos since I was a little girl. My mother is actually who really introduced me. She loved to collect her favorite ansel adams prints and put them on the walls and I always loved looking at all the little details in the photo and I felt like I could look at the photo and find something else to focus on every time. Now not having the outlet of a camera I still knew I wanted to create so I got into different creative paths like painting, drawing, playing music but I always came back to my love for photography and specifically black and white. I just loved the stark difference from both extremes in these photos, so my freshman year I did my first photo class and lets just say my teacher couldn't get rid of me. I knew I didn't just want to take a plain photos of families but something more. Where it was more than just smiles but real emotion you could feel through the picture.
My favorite shoots to do with people are events where a prop is involved. I was privileged to discover my raw passion for vintage western photos. This experience allowed me to rekindle the interest in portrait photography, I found joy in conveying emotions using black and white mediums to give a timeless look. Using my family members and friends I was able to show them in a different light. When looking at this portfolio it almost transports you in that time period. This project really helped me get out of my shell in shooting in more of a public area and finding my own editing style through these photos.
I hope to be able to open up my own studio one day and be able to capture timeless photos with my own area to develop them and really specialize in those types of photos.
